The road to retirement and a healthy life

Greetings – No matter your age or situation, everyone has at one point thought about quitting their job. Just think, not showing up to work and being able to do what makes you happy. Who loves getting up every morning to deal with the stress and office synchronies? Certainly not me.

I’ve thought about this a lot and the older I got the more it circled in my mind. I work remotely in sales and the workload was overpowering to the point it started to take its toll. I had to do something about it.

But how do you survive with no weekly paycheck? The only solution I came up with is to formulate a plan. How much is needed to live? I had to find out and went as far as to create a spreadsheet with my monthly expenses’ vs my assets.

I did this a few years ago and it wasn’t a pleasant outcome. At my age I had little in my retirement and a few bills. So, I buckled down, paid off my debt and ramped up my 401K.

My driving force was life at the end of my journey. Doing what I want when I want. Though I may never achieve total independence, at least I’m almost there. I’ve given my boss my notice. My last day of full time is a week away, then the next month is part time for the transition.

Retirement can be a scary place. Yes, quitting your job has its allure but what do you do when that chapter of your life closes. A lot of people will do those household tasks that never got done while working the 9 to 5. You need a strategy. Mine is to downsize and do what I love, write.

So here I am writing my first blog post about retirement. There’s so much that I want to do. Travel a bit. Maybe Scotland. Finish my sci fi novel. And downsize to the simple life. It won’t be easy but come along with me and maybe you’ll find some tips to help you achieve your goal to live the life you want.
